I enjoy my anime and manga as much as the next neck-bearded individual, but as a freshly motivated member of this new blog, I feel as though it is my duty to bring to the table my infatuation with video games (or as I will often refer to them, vidya, for rather apparent 4chan related reasons).
As many are aware, the second half of 2011 has some of the largest and most anticipated games coming out (Mass Effect 3, TES: Skyrim, SWOR, Uncharted 3, Battlefield 3, Downpour *drool*, and plenty others) that will surely shake the foundation of modern gaming. The official release of Minecraft (basically meaning the removal of the text indicating "beta" in the upper left-hand corner of the main menu) is also set this year (on 11/11/2011, the same day as TES: Skyrim).
The coming Minecraft "Adventure Update" 1.8 will change numerous main game mechanics as well as smaller, less dramatic changes and additions. Complied here are a list of changes that will come in the adventure update, screenshots of some of the changes are also available below. Much of this information has been found at minecraftwiki.net and through the blog of Sir Notch, places I would highly recommend for current or would-be Minecraft players.
Changes:
-New random dungeons, now with possible bosses
-NPCs that build villages
-Ruins/fortresses
-New biome (weather/terrain type) code
-Changed combat mechanics, including critical hits
-Sprinting
-Farming
-Programmable buttons, maps, etc.. (Java likely?)
-More overall power and ease of access to modders/devs
-New lighting engine
-At least one new mob
-More rewarding exploration
(if I have missed anything, feel free to post a comment)
ALSO:
If the Minecraft info or mention TES: Skyrim got you excited at all, you should check out this video of Notch talking one-on-one with Todd Howard, the current Game Director and Executive Producer for Bethesda Game Studios (and also who I aspire to be in life). This is two of the greatest minds in gaming just sitting down and talking in a slightly awkward fashion, this is pure gold (or diamonds, rather). The only way this could get better is if Newell was there. Enjoy!~
