Well, I was pretty damn surprised seeing this episode. Yeah, I heard the buzz about this show before watching it, but it ended up being better than I had expected. The hour long start was much needed for the case and really made the episode worthwhile.
Essentially, this series is another Gosick, as in there's a smart person and a normal person, and these two work on detective cases for whatever reasons they have. Here, we have Alice, the smart NEET detective, and Narumi, the average teenage boy. Then we get the NEET crew whose names I don't have memorized... Anyways, the introduction was fantastic in the way it used its time. They introduced the characters well, they brought up the case and the solution in pace without awkward transitions.
The case itself was also truly magnificent. The clues, reasons, and dialogue really supported the conclusion to the mystery rather than just going "poke poke" in a phonebook. (That's right, I'm talking to you Near!) So the developers have proven themselves that they can write a mystery, but can they make it consistent?
If they can, then we will potentially see another great gem this year the may rival Anohana.
